Guide to the menus on the website

The website has several different menus. These include:

  • The Main menu
  • The Languages menu
  • The Language Centre menu
  • The Library menu
  • The Admin menu

You can use the menus to find your way around the site. This article explains what each of the different menus do. It also provides translations for some of the menu items.

Main menu

The main menu is at the top right of the page, beside the header image.

You can use this menu to jump to the Language Centre section of the site, or to the Library.

Users who are Editors or Administrators will also see an Admin button in this menu. The Admin button jumps to the administration section of the site.

Languages menu

The languages menu is at the very top of the page, above the header image.

You can use this menu to filter items in the library. For example, if you click on Ngalakgan in the languages menu, then when you browse around the library you will mainly see items in the Ngalakgan language.

Clicking on some languages will also change some of the site menus into that language. For example, if you want to see the site menus in English, then you can click English in the Languages menu. See the end of this page for more information about menu translations.

You can read more about the languages menu in the help article called View items in different languages.

Language Centre menu

The Language Centre menu appears below the header image when you are in the Language Centre section of the site.

Clicking on the links in this menu will take you to different parts of the Language Centre page.

Library menu

The library menu appears below the header image when you are in the Library section of the site.

Clicking on the links in this menu will take you to different pages within the library. For example, the Ridim link will take you to a page with selected items to read, such as stories, word lists, and articles about spelling. The Lukabat link takes you to a page where you can search and filter within the items in the library. The Laiberi link takes you back to the Library home page.

You can read more about the different pages in the library in the Using the online library help article.

You can also read more about searching and filtering items within the library in the help article called Search and filter to find items in the online library.

Admin menu

The admin menu appears below the header image when you are in the Administration section of the site.

The admin menu contains links to some of the most common site administration functions, for example adding new content, managing media files, or managing user accounts. The Dashboard link takes you to an administration dashboard with a more complete set of administration links.

Only users who are logged into the site as an Editor or Administrator can access the Administration pages. So only these users will see this menu.

Menu translations

We are in the process of translating the site menus into different languages. In the table below you can see the items that are currently translated, and what they mean in Kriol and English. Blank spaces in the table are items that have not yet been translated into that particular language. Where no translation is yet available for a specific menu item in a given language, the Kriol menu item will appear instead.

If you are viewing the site and you are unsure about the meaning of a menu item, you can find out what it means in a few different ways.

  1. If you are viewing the site on a computer which has a mouse, then hover the mouse over the menu item. A translation into English and/or Kriol will appear.
  2. Use the languages menu to change the menu to a language that you can read. Check out the meaning of the menu item. Then switch back to the previous language if you want.
  3. Look up the item in the relevant table below.
