“Wägilak is a Yolŋu language of the Dhuwa moiety.  Ngukurr Language Centre worked with Ritharrŋu and Wägilak language workers to produce the interactive Wägilak songbook for the Ngukurr community. This musical resource is now available for all to listen and learn from.

This Dhuwa songline of the Wägilak people was recorded in addition to a Yirritja songline of the Ritharrŋu people. Ritharrŋu and Wägilak are closely related language groups representing these two Yolŋu moieties.

The Ritharrŋu/Wägilak community decided to produce two separate books, one for each buŋgul/moiety/language. These books consist mainly of artworks by Ritharrŋu and Wägilak artists representating the songline stories, alongside small explanations in language with Kriol and English translations, and QR codes to access the original song recordings.’
