We can teach you about Kriol language and culture from the Ngukurr area. If you work anywhere where you can hear people talking Kriol, this course is perfect for you.

*These dates are likely but not set in stone. Please keep in mind that we are based in a remote community and we need to maintain flexibility with these courses so that we can account for unexpected weather, sorry business etc. Tickets usually go live about 5 weeks before the scheduled course date.
Important Info and FAQs
The course fee is $400 incl GST per person.
This is a cultural awareness course and an introduction to speaking and understanding Kriol. No prior knowledge necessary. Topics include:
– speaking and listening practice
– useful words and phrases
– cultural awareness
– family and skin
– history and context of Kriol
– basic grammar
– links to traditional languages
This is a 2 day course. Usually run over Sat/Sun or Fri/Sat
Timing: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM each day with breaks.
Breaks: Morning & afternoon tea included; lunch not provided
Tickets are non-refundable.
We are unable to offer refunds for changes in personal circumstances. Tickets can be transferred to another person if you notfiy us in advance. In some cases, we may allow tickets to be carried over to a future course, but this is at our discretion and not guaranteed.
Ngukurr Language Centre reserves the right to cancel the course. If we cancel, you will be reimbursed for the portion of the course that does not run.
Tickets usually become available 4 – 5 weeks before the course dates. We announce tickets and updates on our mailing list.

We aim to run 4 to 5 courses per year. We do our best to cater for everyone but know that some people miss out. If there are particular dates next year that would work best for you and your organisation we’d love to hear from you.
Accommodation: For those coming from out of town, accommodation is available at Darlala Motel. Book in early!
Transport: If coming from out of community, course participants will be required to find their own transport to and from Ngukurr. A section of the Roper Highway is unsealed, and road conditions can vary significantly depending on the time of year. It is your responsibility to check the road conditions before you leave.
Dress: Visitors to Ngukurr are expected to dress modestly. Avoid short and tight fitting clothing. Below the knee. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Food: We will provide morning tea and afternoon tea, but you will need to bring your own lunch. There is a well stocked shop to buy groceries and a little takeaway.
Permit: Ngukurr is on Aboriginal land. You will need to apply for a visitor’s permit if you are coming in from out of town. It is free to apply for a permit. To find out more visit the Northern Land Council’s website:
