We can teach you about Kriol language and culture from the Ngukurr area. If you work anywhere where you can hear people talking Kriol, this course is perfect for you.

Cost

The course fee is $400 per person.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

The course is an introduction to speaking and understanding Kriol. No prior knowledge is necessary. Topics include:
– speaking and listening practice
– useful words and phrases
– cultural awareness
– family and skin
– history and context of Kriol
– basic grammar

COVID-19 Restrcitions

To keep our remote communities safe from COVID-19, all course participants must ensure they are up to date with current rules and restrictions set out by the Northern Territory Government. Participants must be fully vaccinated. Do not attend the course if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Tickets are non-refundable. Ngukurr Language Centre reserves the right to cancel the course. Cancellation by Ngukurr Language Centre will result in reimbursement for the percentage of the course not run.

OTHER INFORMATION

Permit: Ngukurr is on Aboriginal land. You will need to apply for a visitor’s permit if you are coming in from out of town. It is free to apply for a permit. To find out more visit the Northern Land Council website.

Accommodation: For those coming from out of town, accommodation is available at Darlala Motel. Book in early!

Transport: If coming from out of community, course participants will be required to find their own transport to and from Ngukurr. A section of the Roper Highway is unsealed, and road conditions can vary significantly depending on the time of year. It is your responsibility to check the road conditions before you leave. 

Food: We will provide morning tea and afternoon tea, but you will need to bring your own lunch. There is a shop in town with a little takeaway if you don’t want to make your own.

Dress: Visitors to Ngukurr are required to dress modestly. Clothing should not be tight fitting and dresses/skirts should be below the knee.
